What happens next?

Many people have been asking this question. As we say farewell to Father Mark we are going to experience a time of waiting. Once the new Bishop has had an opportunity to establish himself he will authorise a list of clergy appointments. This normally takes place in December and the moves occur at the beginning of February.

Due to the resignation being accepted by the Holy Father of Bishop Denis these moves had to be postponed. It will be a priority of the new Bishop who wishes to consult personally with the priests about the appointments. In the interim it has been decided that Deacon Stuart will act as the ordained minister providing continuity and pastoral cover for the area. The intention is to provide a pastoral programme on a weekly basis which mirrored the timetable of Fr. Mark and at the weekends a priest will be provided for the celebration of the Eucharist.

Next weekend Fr. Hemi Hekiera from Katikati will supply for us. Each community will have a Liturgy of the Word and Holy Communion to replace the Mass during the week, celebrated by the Deacon. If a priest is needed to administer the sacrament of the sick and dying, Deacon Stuart will facilitate this request. Please use the usual contact numbers via the presbytery or the mobile telephone as advertised on the front of the newsletter
