Building Update- Hawkins Herald #14- 19th December

Congratulations on a great opening day Ceremony on Sunday, it was great to see the Church full and to hear all the positive comments about it!

This week we have been busy finishing off the toilet and office area inside, we plan to have this completed on Tuesday with the cleaners in that day to give the area a final clean. On the outside we have completed the metal for the car-parks so the curbing and Hot-mix will be laid in the New Year.

Our team will finish up on site by lunchtime Tuesday, off for a well-earned break and we will return on the 5th Jan.

On behalf of all our Hawkins team I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year. Thanks again to Father Mark and all the Parishioners for making this a great project to work on. I'm sure the church will be well used and enjoyed over the next couple of weeks! If you have any further queries please contact me :)

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #13- 12th December

We have done it! The main church area will be completed over the next couple of days with only small areas of painting and cleaning remaining. The council has signed the building off also meaning it is able to be used so that's an important achievement also.

A huge thanks must go out to Father Mark, Stuart, Darrell (our architect) and all the build committee for all their efforts over the last few weeks. As I have mentioned before, it's great to be working on such a community base project where everyone is working together to complete the project as a team. The Church itself has ended up being a building we can all be proud of for many years to come.

Straun, our site team and sub-contractors must also be mentioned, their efforts have been outstanding and everyone has invested into the project whole heartedly, thanks team!

I know everyone will be blown away by the stained glass and all the other features inside the church and look forward to seeing you all there Sunday!

The final countdown is on to finish the church ready for the Consecration and Opening Mass TODAY at 3.00pm. If you're attending the Opening, all guests are asked to gather outside by 2.45pm, ready for the entrance into the Church. After the conclusion of Mass, there will be light refreshments available in St Joseph's School Hall.

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #12- 5th December

As you can image it has been another busy week on site, we have had all the trades there working on completing their tasks. This week's efforts has set us up well for completing the main church area next week. This obviously takes a lot of co-ordination so Straun and our site team have been doing a great job keeping the flow of works smooth for everyone.

Next week is the big one, the services will be completed in most areas, the glazing will be complete, the ceiling tiles will be installed, the floor coverings will be laid, the painting will be complete in the main church area, the floor will be polished in the entry and the landscaping/ site works will be well underway.

I have to congratulate the church and the Architect Darrell Bell for the design of the LED light windows and the church in general. I guarantee everyone will be amazed at the window glazing design and it was great to hear about the story behind them, the passion and commitment for the project from the parishioners is refreshing and certainly helps the team during this busy time on site so thanks to everyone involved!

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #11- 28th November

It sure has been a busy week on site! The plaster board inside will be completed this week which really makes a huge difference to the feel of the building, the ceiling grid in the main church is well underway and will be completed in the next few days, the altar has been constructed and the tiling to this is starting today, the finishing trims are well underway, the doors and window frames have all been installed expect one, the door hardware has started, the exterior cladding is progressing well, the drainage has started and the soffit linings in the entry have been fitted.

There is another busy week ahead with the services being installed to the ceilings, the painting underway, the tiling completed, the landscaping starting, the ceiling grid completed, the exterior cladding installed, the glazing started in the windows and the floor coverings starting.

As far as progress on site goes we are still on program and are still confident of completing the inside of the main church area by the 14th December. Please remember that the outside will not be completed by this date however and was never going to be, it will be well underway however.

A big thanks to the church from all our team on site for the great roof shout lunch, random lunches and the help on site you have provided. It's great to work on a community project like this- Thanks!

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #10- 21st November

posted Nov 22, 2014, 7:29 PM by Aidan Collett   [ updated Nov 22, 2014, 7:30 PM by Parishes of The Holy Family ]

It's been a fairly good week weather wise so the progress has been great outside. The roof is almost completed and the exterior claddings are going well. The window frames in the main church area and the offices are all installed with the remainder of the entry area doors being fitted from Monday. On the inside the insulation is almost completed, the services that are “1st fix" are complete the ceiling linings in the office area are almost complete and the wall linings are underway.

Over the next week the interior and exterior wall linings will be almost completed, the ceiling linings will be complete, the stopping to the wall and ceiling linings will be almost complete, all the doors and windows will be installed, the ceiling grid will be almost completed inside the main Church and the exterior drainage/landscaping will be started.

I would like to take this opportunity to assure everyone that we are working as hard as we can to complete as much of the works as possible by the Opening day on 14th December and that we are progressing slightly ahead of program to date. Please remember this date is not the completion date for the project and there will still be some areas inside the office area and the landscaping that will not be 100% complete. The aim has always been to have the main church area operational and completed inside along with the entry area, which is all on track and looking good!

If you have any further queries please contact me :)

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #9- 14th November

posted Nov 22, 2014, 7:27 PM by Aidan Collett   [ updated Nov 22, 2014, 7:27 PM by Parishes of The Holy Family ]

You may have noticed a few more contractors' vehicles on site this week and as predicted it has been a very busy week on site in general. It's great to see the window installation and exterior claddings well underway and the “first fix" for the services (wiring, pipework and duct-work) almost completed. We just need to complete the membrane on the lower roof this week and it will be a good week all around.

The next week we will be another busy one completing the window installation, installing the insulation to the walls and lower ceiling, lining some of the ceilings and walls inside, completing the roofing membrane, installing flashings, starting the weather boards, continuing the exterior cladding around the main church area and hopefully start some drainage in the car park outside.

The Intregra panels on the exterior of the main church are an interesting form of cladding, it is a very thick, stable and robust light stone like product which will end up looking great once plastered because of its stable and "flat" nature. Let's hope the rain stays away soon so we can have a fair go at plastering and painting it!

Building Update- Hawkins Herald #8- 12nd November

posted Nov 11, 2014, 10:00 AM by Aidan Collett   [ updated Nov 11, 2014, 10:01 AM by Parishes of The Holy Family ]

As you can see the Church is starting to look closed in and hopefully by the end of next week we will be able to keep the interior dry so the insulation can start. The lower roof is now the key to achieving this which we are busy working on now.

We have also poured the floor slab infill inside the church and the entry slab. The entry slab has been poured with a black oxide in it which gives it a dark colour, this slab is also an exposed aggregate slab which makes it an attractive non-slip area.

Next week will be a very busy week with all the services trades starting on site to install their wiring, ducting and pipe work. We will also be installing the windows on the exterior, the water-proof membrane to the roof and starting the exterior cladding. This is the key week for the project because of all the critical tasks and the amount of work planned for the week. A prayer or two on Sunday for some fine weather would be appreciated!

If you have any further queries please contact me :)

The entry slab and has been poured and the building is closing in fast
