The Third Sunday in Advent is called Guadate Sunday (‘rejoice” in Latin), in which the priest wears a rose vestment. Rose is a softening of violet. It is violet approaching white. It means “we’re nearly there! So rejoice!”

Indeed, we have reasons to rejoice. Early last week we received the great news that Mother Suzanne Aubert has been declared ‘Venerable’ by the Holy Father-the second stage on the way to being a saint. “the next stage involves the recognition of a miracle attributed to Suzanne, such as recovery from a terminal illness as a result of prayer. She can then be declared ‘Blessed’ by the Pope. A second miracle and proof that she is a model for the universal Church will enable her to be canonised as a saint” ( Let us continue to pray for the Cause of Mother Aubert’s canonisation.

There will be a communal Rite of Reconciliation (Rite II) on Tuesday, 20 December in Te Aroha at 7pm. Guest priests will come to hear confessions.

I’d like to extend our condolences and offer our prayers for the families of Gerry Rigter and Lyn Dromgool. May the Lord be their strength at this time of loss. May the Lord grant eternal rest to Gerry and Lyn. Amen.

God Bless, Fr. JeLo
